Without Further Ado…
Yes, Mike, the Beavers were in over their heads.
So I have gone about eight different directions with thoughts on this post and that Civil War beatdown. There isn’t much to analyze, Oregon was simply the better team. Embarrassment I think is the best word to describe most Beaver fans I have talked to. There isn’t a lot of anger, disappointment, or bitterness as much as down right embarrassment. So, here’s to you Duck fans.
A few links on where Oregon State is headed and how they are dealing with the blowout loss to UO:
- A great wrap-up from Building the Dam.
- A look at Sun Bowl matchup possibilities. And Buker, we get it, you don’t like El Paso.
- That injury James Rodgers suffered on Saturday? Turns out it is a broken collarbone. James is most likely out for the bowl game. Brother Jacquizz should be ok to play.
- Canzano’s Civil War take.
- “Oregon played better than the Beavers tonight, and that’s the bottom line.” Man, I really love Mike Riley as a coach. Can’t believe I wanted him gone during the slow start to the 2006 season. I am embarrassed.
- Riley has faith in OSU’s ability to bounce back in their bowl game.
Finally, I have to say, I really appreciate the way most Oregon State fans have handled the loss. I have heard virtually no excuses or “only-if” scenarios. Beaver Nation recognizes that Oregon was the better team and deserved the victory. Now, I wasn’t at the game so I can’t personally speak to the atmosphere but I was told by several people that it was a fairly cordial setting considering how devastated Beaver fans were. I went out to the bar in Portland still wearing my beaver gear (the only one in my group of ~10 I might add) and most Duck fans were pretty cordial as well though I wasn’t doing much talking back, mostly just shrugging my shoulders. Only a few yay-hoos (do people besides my dad still use that word) tried to take it a little too far but I just walked away.
So well done Ducks. Enjoy the Holiday Bowl. Represent the Pac-10 well.
