That Sound? My Heart Breaking.
Could Jeremiah Masoli be more ghey? I submit no.
University of Oregon quarterback Jeremiah Masoli is a piece of garbage. This we already know. I mean, how many real feel good stories come out of Eugene? That’s right, zero. So as many of you know by now, Masoli and teammate Garrett Embry have been named by a 20-year-old sophomore member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity at UO for stealing several items including two MacBook laptops. So far there has been no official comments from the University or from Masoli or Embry. Is there really any doubt this is true? I mean, what student of a university purposely submarines the pride of the their school? I suppose it is possible, but highly doubtful.
The truth is, all of that isn’t even my favorite part of the story. Masoli has done time before. Granted, he was a kid and that is really why I held back before (at least in this forum) but now I consider it fair game. I realize I may end up with egg on my face but again, I don’t find anything about this breaking story unbelievable. Well, except for the part about a fraternity member running down a Pac-10 wide receiver on foot. Of course, Embry did only catch two passes last year so maybe “Pac-10 receiver” is a bit of a gift.
At any rate, I digress. Check out this story from November 5, 2009. My favorite quotes:
A respected student and a team captain, Masoli pleaded guilty to robbery…
Ha! Sounds eerily familiar.
“You just gotta lean on God. That’s really what I was brought up on. Everybody has their bad days, bad weeks, whatever. I just feel like I’m such a strong person because of the people who raised me that I could get through anything.”
Apparently Masoli has taken this “I can get through anything” mantra to mean “I can do anything.” And it’s always nice to see a kid with such a firm faith in God.
“Jeremiah’s story is just amazing,” Toeaina said. “Just from how far he came, the world he came from, it’s just amazing that somebody could get through something like that. At the same time, once he got here, he’s made the most of it.
Oops.
“We have a lot of kids (with a similar history), based on who they hung out with in high school, the kind of crowd they ran with or the environment they were in,” Bellotti added. “And luckily for him in some regards, he removed himself — or his family removed him — from that environment, and it paid dividends.”
See, Mr. Bellotti, the problem is that if you continually bring those kids in, you are recreating that atmosphere. And pretty clearly over the past year or so your players have had their issues staying out of trouble.
So, all that said, once Masoli returns the laptops, apologizes to the student and Oregon Duck fans everywhere and pleads out to a misdemeanor charge, Mike Bellotti will suspend the quarterback indefinitely and he will be reinstated for Spring Practice. Hey, they are hardliners down in Eugene. Recognize.
